hi everyone i just got done with my new 90gal set-up and i put it against the wall dividing the bedroom and diningroom. well my wife complains that the little giant 3mdq-sc return pump makes a vibrating noise. so i tried to place things like 3" foam under it ect. ect. but alot of it is the vibration of the bearings i think. so i figured if i got to get a new pump then i better find out whats the quietest one. i know iwaki pumps are good but are the quiet? how bout SEN pumps,or QUIET ONE pumps? the flow rate of the little giant is fine i don't need a 1200gph pump so keep that in mind. thanks in advance

The quiet one, I have power heads/ mak 4, , iwaki 30, and the quiet one is the quietest. I havent used it long so I dont know about longevity, but thus far its my favorite.

Quiet One beats em all hands down on noise. You can barely hear this thing running. Most times I have to touch mine to verify.

Ampmasters are also a very quiet pump.

I have a velocity T3 sitting loose on 1/2" plywood stand with no vibration dampening material and cannot hear anything. I can't tell if it's on without looking at tank water for movement The only problem I have had was reduced water flow when a Rio suction cup from my skimmer pump got sucked into the velocity pump. It didn't even vibrate or complain then, but tore up the suction cup pretty good.

If you get a velocity make sure it is the titanium pump as the stainless steel had problems with salt water.

I replaced my Iwaki w/ a Quiet One, and as stated before, I cannot hear it running at all (and I'm only 33, so I know my hearing is good, huh?)! They are about $90 from Marinedepot.com.

Does the Velocity T4 put any noticeable heat into the tank?

Velocity t series pumps are very quiet. Lifeguard quiet ones are great too. Both I believe produce the same amount of heat but I do believe the velocity t series will last much longer in SW use. The only problem with the t4 is that there are no threads on it. Just a outlet you have to hose clamp the hose on. I am about to use a t4 on my 120.

Quiet one pumps are the way to go. They actually will deliver a bit more water than the 3mdq-sc at 4'. My LG was too hot to handle when running and made had an impeller hum that let you know it was on. My QO is near silent and only warm to the touch. That has to translate to less heat into the tank, though I didn't note any difference when swapping back and forth between the two.

dsb1829, I have a LG and it is noisy. I was told the the Quiet One was originally a spa pump so heat transfer wasn't an issue. The thing that I was concerned about was that and reliability. It is a lot cheaper than the T4 but doesn't sound like it is made as good. I just don't want to spend less money but have it go down when I am away on a trip and lose my whole tank.

I have had two quiet one pumps. Both were purchased used. Both worked great. I sold one to another board member here on RC and he has been using it since. I beleive that these pumps actually have a very clean service record. I definitely recommend these pumps and have a lot more faith in them than LG at this point.

I also run the larger Dolphin Aqua Seas pumps. I have a 3600 and will soon be hooking up an Ampmaster 3000. These a great pumps too. I haven't had any experience with the "T" models. Only reason I run these is because it would take a small army of quiet one pumps @87w ea to get the flow of these big guys.

I have a Dolphin Aqua Sea 4500 but I don't think it's that quiet. I do have a Iwaki MD55RLT and Iwaki MD100RLT running right next it though so I'm not sure if it's the combination of them but they all seem a bit loud to me.
