I have this plate coral that I have had for months. The other day it decided to start dieing off in one spot and in a matter of 3 days I had to remove it from my tank..

I checked all the perameters, water condition and everything was normal... I am a little taken back by this, couldn't find any preditor, or any reason it started to die and then so rapidly just go bye bye... everything else is doing well... Just don't know..

Anyone else have something like this happen to their plate?

Any suggestions on what to check for..

PH 8.3
Nitrate 1
Phos. .03
Specific Gravity normal range
Temp 79
Cal. 460
Alk. 3.90
No am - or Nitrite

???????

Thanks for the help..

May have been a fungal infection, damage from an accidental nibbling or unknown nocturnal predator. Wouldn't show up in testing the tank.

Is there anyway to stop something like that if caught in time?

Hmmmm..... Well, it was nice while it was healthy...

I have a pic in my gallery... Left side of tank.... Pink tipped... Going to miss it!!

If caught in time, they can be saved, but you've got to be really quick on the doctor's visit, your best bet (naturally) is to buy a healthy specimin.

What would be the treatment?

Just in case it happens to me or someone else!!

No one can say what happened to your corals based on a description of "dying off in one spot" and then mortality three days later. It is likely that an infection did the coral in given the time frame and the general pattern of death in this species which is very delicate in tanks - but perhaps secondarily infected having a primary cause related to who-knows-what - and what type of infection, much less any treatment, is purely speculative.

That is what I thought...

Well, I just hope that it goes better next time...

Thanks...
