i recenlty aquired a finger leather. though it looks more like a devils hand. it is about 4" high and has been spreading real good. lately i noticed that it will change from a light tan color to a dark brown/purple. Kind of resemebles the color of a bruised bannana. Is this normal? it does have its polyps extended. i have it put in a llow/med water flow under 2 65w PC 50/50 bulbs. please help.

What kind of lighting did it come from? I wouldn't worry to much though as darker is normally better for corals as the zoanthelea start to become more abudant in the tissue.

I would agree with fleet. As long as it continues to look health you should be fine...

it came from a 96W 50/50 2 bulb PC unit. it seems to get lighter by end of day

hard to say - could be acclimation yet or a mucus tunic forming.

Zooxathellae having a party perhaps? Do they harbour them? If so, a lot of PO and NO 4. :)

i think it is getting nipped by my damsel. i cant seem to get the bugger out of the tank. thinking of putting in a fish hook. near dark area i see a small piece of it missing, looks like a fresh wound.

My leather was getting beat to death, and the feather duster kept getting trips around the aquarium by the urchin! I finally got a plastic barnacle thing, used the turkey baster to add sand (and freshen it a little every month.) We put the leather in one hole and a big feather duster in another - they're happy and the other animals can't touch their lower half.

its not the lowr half its the tips of the hand. anyone know any tricks to catching damsels besides removing all the rocks?
