I kept getting these egg masses on my back glass. I discovered a new mass last night.

Here they are

And here is the happy parent laying them. One of my Nassarius

Just thought I would share.

Can you post an image showing the complete snail?

Thanks for the pix MItchellB. I have been noticing the same egg formations in my tank for months now and could not figure out what inhabitant they were from. Thanks to you, I now know that my Tongan Nassrius snails have been pretty busy :)

Hi,

[thanks].

There wasn't enough detail in the first image to confirm that the snails were a species of Nassarius, and I just wanted to be sure.

So then, they are? correct. Anyway of raising these eggs?

Hi,

Yes, it is a Nassarius.

The eggs can be raised, but without a dedicated system to do it, it won't happen. You need to isolate the larvae, feed them, etc., and then provide them with an acceptable substrate to settle on, etc. Pretty labor intensive proposition. ;D

I was just wondering, lately I've heard that nassarius are whelks and were predatory, but I have never had problems with them in the past. Are these snails a friend or foe?

Hi,

Nassarius is a genus of Buccinid whelks. However, they unlike other buccinids, they do not attack living healthy animals. They will attack wounded animals. Other than that they eat only carrion or meaty foods.
