Bought it a couple of years ago, but never got around to using it... it has run for brief periods of time (a week or so), but never consistantly. It's definitely like new.

I need something slightly more powerfull for my current setup, so I will trade as well if anyone has something. I could use something like an Iwaki 30RLXT or 40 RLXT

I've got a used WMD 30RLXT that I'm not using. Is yours the MD or WMD model? (Look at the part number.)

Hey charger what do you want for that wmd30rlxt? www.petsolutions.com has them for $129.00 plus $10.00 to ship. How old is it and what condition is it? Send me some pictures to jenbry@cinci.rr.com. Thanks Jeremy

Its a couple years old, is clean except for a tiny amount of rust at the back. Very good condition.

I actually traded my 30RLT for it, then decided not to use it and instead got an Ampmaster 3000 and Mak4.

So, I'll trade Playdope, if you want. I'm not trying to horn in on your thread.

Thanks ChargerFan... I just want to double check to make sure this would be a smart move for me. How do I know if my system could handle the additional circulation? It's a 100 gal tank, durso pipe in the overflow, and about a 30 gal sump with the return bulkhead plumbed at the bottom right.

How is one supposed to know how many gph a pump should be to circulate their system anyway?

Thanks,
Jon

Something bigger, I think.

If you're not sure yet what to replace it with, and its in use, then do some research ('search') here on rc and maybe post a question in the Lighting, Filtration & Other Equipment forum. (http://reefcentral.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?s=&forumid=212)

The 30RLT is sought after as a return pump because it doesn't have a fan (quiet) and is very energy efficient. Maybe a CSL T3 or a 40 or Iwaki 50? Or add powerheads/Tunze streams/Seio pumps for more flow. A lot goes into this decision.

Would this be enough ...

Iwaki 30 RLXT on closed loop (2 return locations)
Iwaki 30 RLT return pump
Maxi Jet 1200 powerhead

I just want to make sure the pump isn't sucking too much water out of the sump too fast... forcing me to restrict flow to the pump with a valve - heard thats not the greatest for the pumps.

Playdope, yeah, that's why people do closed loops, so that they don't pull too much water through the sump.

IME, a 30RLT is good for 1 3/4" return with 4' head. I think a 30RLXT on a closed loop should be good for 2 3/4" returns. A 40 or T3 would be good for 2 or 3 returns.
