Hey everyone!

Hope you had a good visit at Brians and hope you had a chance to check out his set up... it was a rather un-organized meet.. sorry bout that.. I am not good a structuring ... another reason to get some fellow officers to help me get my crap together ;) My husband suggested that tperhaps to prevent something like this happening again, when we do a tank tour, take the first 15 min or so for the person to hit the details and highlights of their set up.. maybe using a chekclist so things do not get left out..

Anyway... if you did not notice or hear, Brian uses a plenium in his set ups.... something like the DSB theory except he has a dead air space physically created under his sand bed....

I wonder Brian how far down does your starfish and horseshoe crab go... do you have to worry about them disturbing the anaerobic layer or do you ahve a barrier to prevent that?

Also I liked the way he had his sump is setup with the refugium in it... hope you all got to take a good look... feel free to ask Brian ? if you have them.. I am sure he does not mind....

John also pointe dout his new light.. the reflector is 'dimpled' so to speak and he said it reflects about 30% more light.. and the fans on both ends of the light are a good idea as well...... minor investments to prevent future headaches so to speak......

The sand sifting starfish only travels in the very top layers of the substrate.....not sure about the horseshoe crab tho.....but again the horseshoe crabs are not in any of the tanks that have a plenium setup. My main display tank and the one 55 gal in the other room are the only two tanks that are not on the plenium system.........

From my viewing of the horse shoe crab so far it doesn't look like he goes way down deep......just in the upper most layers of the substrate......he is sure fun to watch tho...pushing all that sand around.......
:)

Thanks to all that took there time to come up to Bangor to see my setups.......I enjoyed it very much and I look forward to many more get togethers in the future......Feel free to call me on the phone anytime, if there is anything that I can help with......

Have a great day!!!!!

Bryan

p.s. I got those starfish in today Denise, feel free to give me a buzz sometime so I can tell you the colors that they sent me........

Hi Everyone,
Thanks Bryan for the tour. Had a great time! Good thing I only brought enough money for McDonalds....
The horseshoe crabs shouldn't dig very deep, just enough to completely cover themselves. They still need to breath so can't bury too deep. You might have to occasionally target feed them too.

I had a great time at Brian's. I envy the many great looking tanks. Especially since I'm having such a time with one! I hope some day to have a tank with such diverse life.

Thanks to Verdie(sp) as well, It was nice to ride and talk with everyone.
