Dr. Ron,

New to the site. I hope I'm posting this in the correct spot.

Ok.... LR just set up over the weekend and tonight I just saw something moving around. Looks like some type of snail, but its shell is a little unusual. Here is a pic of a couple of "open nut shell" looking things in the tank. The snail looks like he is in one of these that are just cracked a little.

I've also heard that is could be a muscle or a clam??? It is actually climbing up the rock in the pictures. It's not on the sand bed.

Hi,

It is a small clam, possibly in the genus Arca. They are common hitchhikers on live rock. They generally perish after a few months as there is generally not sufficient plankton in reef aquaria to keep them alive.
