I was wondering if it would be possible to do a cold water salt tank. I could gather stuff from the rocks because I live on the Monterey Bay. I am using a tank that is two seperate tanks conneccted by two tubes. I plan to use a canister filter and some NO lights. I was also thinking of an SCWD on a mag 5. Any suggestions would be appreciated! Thanks:D

It is entirely possible, but I would consider putting a chiller on it. Even at room temps, you will probably still run 72 - 75 degrees. If you are wanting to keep a true coldwater (70 or below), I would look into it.

Im going to put it in a building that is very cool during the whole day. What Im going to do is moniter the temp with lights, powerhead and saltwater and record the temperature.

I could also just turn the tank into a FOWLR.

A.K.A. a "temperate tank." As mentioned above, you will need to keep at 65. Easier said than done. We had one in Marine Biology way back in college...way back! It was definitely cool! Pun intended. MM

It can be done but as far as I know, it is illegal to collect anything from Monterey Bay.

we had one at my school. It was a local tank so the water had to be about 40-55 degrees. with that cold of water, moisture was always collecting on the glass. Made it really ahrd to see. But if you have a chiller I say go for it. There are some really beautiful coldwater/temperate anemones and some awesome fish.
