*sigh* Roses are becoming a dime a dozen nowadays.. although I do like the pink coloration of those posted so far :)

Anyways here's my favorite (I only have two) and just as soon as he became my favorite he decided to go hide deep within a crevase out of view *sigh* maybe I should try to starve him out.

Been a while since I showed this. Lack of a better picture makes me stay with this one ;). Since I took this a couple months ago that anemone did a tri-split. But I cant find the third clone anymore so I think it bit the dust shortly after :-(. the other two are very healthy and grow like little kids ;P

Thank you, the little male wasnt allowed in the BTA when that picture was taken. It took him a good 6 months to build up the courage to storm the female and take control of the house. Needless to say he got his little fins kicked and now they live happily, they each have their own BTA to call home.

Everyone: They all look great, keep the pictures coming please.

Dwayne: What is the width on that tank? Or the size? I cant figure it out ><

That pic was taken looking in from the end of my 125 gal. Anemone is probably 18" from the end of the tank. Tank is 6 ft long and 18" wide.

Perry - that is a gorgeous anemone! Is it a blue carpet? If so, how big do they get? I would love to have one in my 120gal to go along with the rbta.

Unfortunately, I ordered this creature from a group order out of Bali. There were several others that were ordered and looked the same. I am told they were a corn anemone. Is the coloring right, i dont know its been like that since the day I got it. I have not been able to find much info on this creature other that it is part of the BTA family.

So is it bleached? I don't know.

z_rivers
06/28/2004, 11:50 PM
that anemone is very badly bleached and is starving. too bad that it died though. if an anemone is bleached, strong lighting, frequent feedings, and good water quality should make the anemone have a full recovery over a few months. if you see a white anemone, dont buy it unless you know you can make it recover. they usually end up dieing and it wastes your money.

I had him eating shrimp and scallops every other day and I had him under a 400w mh and 110w PC actinics. I guess when I got him it was too late already. Thats the problem with sight unseen group orders from the internet. :(

How do you put pics on here

Dlckwood
06/29/2004, 03:16 PM
In order for this to work you need a website to host your pictures.
Just follow these pictures step by step.
1. Right click the image that you want to show on reef central and select Properties.
http://home.ripway.com/2003-10/32128/1.JPG
2. Next highlight the area that says Address and copy it. This can be acomplished by hitting ctrl c, or by right clicking after highlighting it.
http://home.ripway.com/2003-10/32128/2.JPG
3. Next, go to the bottom of the thread that you want to post the image to and click Post.
http://home.ripway.com/2003-10/32128/3.JPG
4. Now find the IMG buttom click that and paist the URL that you just copied in the previous step.
http://home.ripway.com/2003-10/32128/4.JPG
5. The page should look like the one below if you have done everything correctly.

DIckwood,

I have it under N.O. lighting. Two 30 watt Actenic and two 30 watt 10,000K. This is a classic example of purchasing without research. The anemone was in the personal tank of my LFS and has grown and thrived for 6 months under similar N.O. lighting.
Hasen't moved around so I think it is doing well. I will be watching it closely for a while and will have to find it a new home if I see any signs of stress.

wow swiseman, great way to show the exception to the rule! But if you up the lighting just to it gradually I had a H.mag/BTA (still unsure of the species!) go from NO lighting in a LFS tank (granted not for 6 months) to 220 PC & 175 MH and he slinked his way into a crack in my rockwork and really doesn't like the light.

Hi Dberlin, I was told it was a giant carpet, is that the same thing? He has gotten double the size that he is in this picture now, about 12 inches across during the day now. Eats 6 silversides at a feeding. lol.The maroon in the picture is a female of a pair that I have with him and she is 4+ inches long, Thanks for the help

Stoneyscoral

Most likely Gigantea. Longer tentacles than a haddoni or mertens and verrucae on the column say it a gigantea. It will get big, but the biggest is the Mertens carpet.

It loves light, current and of course silversides.

That just isn't true...well the killing part...you are correct in that it is not a suitable host (anemones host clowns, clowns don't "host in anemones") You can read an excellent article on tube anemones below:

Hey Vert20, who hangs out in your haddoni?

Actually none of the clowns that have been around it ever gave it a second glance. Of course there have been other choices too, my Ocellaris were partial to the Sebae I had, and my maroons only went near the BTA. I have a single Ocellaris that hangs out in a ritteri in the same tank...go figure.

Other fish hang around it though...had an 8" FoxFace that drifted into it one night while sleeping, and my female PJ cardinal found it while I was siphoning the tank one day...almost saved her...but it was too much.

They do seem to have expensive appetites dont they. I put a moon light on because I was so worried about my bangaii going in.

I might be wrong but I think the fish can see in the dark. Also I think I've heard they can't see certain moonlight type color spectrums...true?

Some movement from them but not much. They get great current and light on top of their perch. I can't wait to see how the color developes.

Here is our one and only. Have had the BTA (Entacmaea Quadricolor) for about 6 months, and two A. Ocellaris for about 5 months. Got lucky in the past month as the female began hosting in the BTA....not a natural pair, but one that is doing very well in our tank.

Almost lost the BTA after a heater failure. It stuck on and heated the tank from 77 up to 86 before we caught it. New temp controller now prevents such incidents. BTA bleached a bit and went into hiding. Lots of TLC and time has led to a good recovery. Its coloring has returned, and it expands to 8-10" now daily. :)

Thanks finding nemo. I don't post much, but I read enough to be pleasantly surprised by your compliment! Your experience, success, and willingness to share knowledge / assist people with anemones is much appreciated. You have quite the operation going with RBTA's!

It only took about 30-40 digital photos to finally get one that I was happy with  . Still trying to figure out the best camera settings (white balance, macro modes, etc.) to take tank pictures. Good thing about digital though - just delete the ones you don't like or want :).

Ryan.

Hi Redlion, I am always happy to help via PM or here. Life is for sharing what we can with others.
I know what you mean about digital cameras, I take loads of pics and pick out the one that isnt blurry, lol.
I have a new sony camcorder/still camera that uses the little dvd and I just love it. Takes some getting used to but I think I have it down now. I will be adding the new livestock I got in today to my web site under 40 gallon tank, if you have time come and see.
Keep up the great care that you are giving your baby. She shows the love you give her.

yea. it came back quite well... although the first week i was doubtful as its mouth was wide open, and it wouldnt take as much food as usual.... I was just kinda dropping mysis shrimp into its mouth... normally it would frantically grab at silversides but with no tenticles its kinda hard i guess... lol at th eend of week 3 there were tons of .5"-1" stubs all over it, at the end of week 4 it looked like normal. although i dont think it has as many as it did before....

Steve,
That is a beautiful picture. I assume that the picture is under actinic light. Under natural color light, what color is this anemone? Is it purple colum Purpleish tenticle with yellow tip?
I would love to see a picture of this anemone under white light.

It really fluoresces under actinics but it's a yellow tip with a cream base. I don't have a solo pic but you can see it in a tank shot from Feb'04. It doesn't really do it justice though. Fully extended the disc is about 18" across.

This little adhesive has been in the same spot, foot wedged behind a Tunze ReefPack for quite some time now. Someone tell this guy "sand only" please.

Yes, that cruddy air bubble laden picture is taken underneath an H. magnifica in "mooning" position. The current in this tank is generated by airpumps on a wavetimer.

I'm a little late jumping in here, but hey I'm new.

This is a H. crispa I have had for 12 years in a 40 gal aquaium with 4 30watt flourescents. It is about 18 inches across.http://reefcentral.com/gallery/data/512/67981gSebaeSize.jpg

I got the mertins at a wholesalers called Sea Dwelling Creatures in L.A. last summer. I haven't seen them since. They had three seperate shipments (that I know of) from Fiji of just a couple each time. One came in in the process of splitting. It had two oral disks and mouths but only one base. These are the first I've ever seen in 20 years of keeping reefs. I know they are not rare, but maybe they are usually to big or too hard to collect without injuring them. Their column and food are very fragile.

I had always wondered if some of the Haddoni I saw were actually Mertins, but once you see the mertins in person, they are easy to tell apart.

I've had it over a year under compact flourescents and its doing great. It has grown a little and is now about 18" across. I'm hoping it won't grow to a meter across in the tank I have, but it seems to conform to it's substate.
