This may have been brought up already, but I suspect the chemicals we buy at the pool store are OK for tank use. I was shoveling in some "Calcium harness plus" the other day, noticed my hand was warming up, and realized this is probably high grade ice-melt or CaCl?? Soda ash is "Ph raiser" and the "alkalinity plus" is ???

Might be a source of CaCl for the "off season" when ice melt isn't available.

While those pool chemicals would be the same basic chemicals in some cases, I can't say whether they are pure enough to use in a reef aquarium, with the exception of the Dowflake calcium chloride.
