View Full Version : Starting to worry (even more) about nitrites

It has now been six weeks since I started the cycle with live rock. Had an immediate NH3 spike, but it went to zero quickly. My nitrites have still not made it to zero. I have been sitting at 0.165 for over a week. The test kit is LaMotte, so I assume it is good.
Do I need to worry, or should I accept this as normal?
Thanks

Did the nitrite go up and then come down?

Does your fresh salt water show any nitrite?

Nitrite is not that toxic. You might check out this thread since in later portions of it, it has a lot of discussion about the possible toxicity of nitrite (or lack thereof):

The nitrite seems to remain constant, and no the fresh salt water does not have any.
Interesting article.
Thank you

If ammonia has been gone for a while, I wouldn't worry about the nitrite. It might be real, it might be a kit error.
