I got some of this on clearance, but it's a "blend" of prenium activated charcoal (no prob) and "ammonia fighting crystals" (hmmm). It also says for freshwater only... any reasons NOT to use this with my saltwater? Thanks! The crystals look like grey charcoal pieces.

I'm not sure what the white granules are:

But I would not expect them to limit it to freshwater if it were OK for marine systems.

Ah, Clinoptilolite. That's Boomers favorite material. :D

Thanks for the link. :)

While they do not mention it there, it has the potential to release a little aluminum into the water. I'm not sure if it does or not.

In any case, if you already have it, using it may be OK.

I'd rinse it first and then if corals close up on use, stop using it.

Randy,

I have some "ammonia fighting crystals" and am now wondering if I should give it a shot in my hospital tank? Thanks

PS I just found my free aquarium plants in my IO bucket and they make great decorations for hospital tanks!

If it is seawater, and the purpose is ammonia reduction, don't bother. It won't be beneficial.

The aquarium plants, on the other hand, are perfect for reef aquaria. :D
