It's a 100 proof liquor that tastes like dark chocolate. It's got a black label, and a slogan that reads "Paddle your own canoe."
I need some. If you know who's got some, post it!

I don't care about the proof-- that was just "description." I like the taste.
beerguy, YES! Can you? ;) EDIT: You're right. How's this. "I want some."

I've gone though several hundred Google hits, and the only one relevent (but useless) is this one.
http://www.unsolvedmysteries.com/usm177662.html
Search the page on "wild spirits" (including the quotes) for two hits. I'm not the only one looking for it.

where did you originally get it from?
pnosko
06/09/2004, 04:53 PM
It was an old bottle my dad had that we finished off this past weekend. Rumor is it's made by some people (the term used when told to me was "hillbillies") that make it "whenever they feel like it," and that ain't too often. It's fairly cheap (I think it's a liter bottle and the $16.xx price tag is still on it), so they don't make it for the profit. THAT should tell you how good it really is.

Hey pnosko, what up man?
Do you actually like the taste of hard booze? I think that hard alcohol tastes like it should be used as fuel in lamps or machinery.
Now I have consumed my fair share of spirits, up until 23 days, six hours 11 minutes and 11 seconds ago. (not that I'm counting)
I always hated the taste of any hard liquor, but it didn't stop me from guzzling 20 shots of whiskey a day (on average, some days more, some less).
I just never understood how anybody could like the taste.
I didn’t drink for the taste, just the peace of mind it gave me (or the piece of my mind it took away from me).

I actually drink very little. Maybe a six-pack or two of beer a year. An occasional glass of wine. 2-3 Margarita's whenever I get to Guapo's (every few months or less). Every drop of booze I drink is only for taste.
I think the main reason I never developed a habit (or "fascination") for booze is because my parents did not deny it to us while growing up. We had beer and/or wine on the dinner table, and could have some if we wanted it. I remember many of my friends having to "sneak" it because it was taboo and therefore something to be desired and sought out.
I saw your other thread. It will control you if you let it. Congrats, man!

To answer SBSB's question (sorry Pete, no idea where to find it)...the hard liquors that I drink, I enjoy the taste of. I like my single malt's with a good cigar...I like cheap tequilla (Jose Cuervo Gold, 1800, etc) when I'm just drinking with buddies, or a good sipping tequilla depending on my mood. I sometimes like rum as well. Can't stand vodka though for some reason. Whiskey's ok, but not really to my taste either I guess.

Hey don’t get me wrong. I’m not preaching. I can’t stand reformed people that think everybody should quit something just because they did. I still smoke cigarettes (I know it’s bad and it’s next on the list to go) and I think it’s hypocritical for x-smokers or drinkers, to be so be-yatchy when somebody smokes or drinks around them. Hey, can’t these people remember that they were doing the same thing at one time.
I had to stop drinking because it was out of control and was literally killing me and it was so painful to see my wife in such distress when I was finally losing it at the end before I went into the hospital.
I think that everybody should do what they want to do and we are all responsible for our own actions.
Can I get an amen?
Hallelujah, my brothers!
Can I get an amen?
...amen! This of course, ironically, coming from an oooooh-so-pious teenager who just went skinny dipping with some friends :p

I didn't take it as preaching at all Steve. So far I can honestly say my drinking is under my own control. Smoking on the other hand....well...I'll get there:lol: Congrats on realizing and addressing the problem though...it takes guts

Actually I thought pnosko might have taken my remarks as preaching because he mentioned that he doesn't drink much. I felt kind of bad like I pushed him into defending himself by saying that.
BTW, thanks for the encouraging words. I think today may actually be 25 days. My last drink was May 17th. I’m bad with numbers, LOL.

BTW, did you go cold Turducken?

If you would consider 2 injections of Valium, 1 of Ativan and Haldol and around 60-80 MG of Valium tablets in a 30 hour period cold Turducken, yes! That amount of narcotics would put a lot of people unconscious for several days; if not into a coma or kill them.
My tolerance for substances was SO high that it took very large dosages to keep me from climbing the walls or going into seizures. I think Dr. Chitwood could back me up on that statement.
BTW, that was one of the most hellish experiences I have ever had.

Believe it or not, at 290something pounds, I can feel one can of beer. That stops me from going too far, except at Guapo's where the Margaritas are so tasty, I hire a designated driver.

Hey, I’m glad I didn’t sound like I was preaching, because that’s just not me. I guess I’m still going through chemical changes in my brain after cessation of mind-altering substances I have been consuming for around 30 years. You obviously have a very low tolerance if 1 beer, at your weight has an effect on you. That is what Martha Stewart would call “a good thing LOL.
My hospital experience was so weird you could make a TV show out of it. I would refer to it as a comedy of errors, except the comical part came at my expense and it wasn’t very funny at the time. I can look back at it now and laugh because I’m here to talk about it. I will go into details if you’re interested.

Steve, I'm all for learning from other's experiences, so I know I would be willing to listen if you wish to share. I wish my alcohol tolerance was as low as Pete's sometimes...at least I'd be a cheap date (and yes I know I left that wide open:lol: ).

Thanks pnosko, I have already covered some of this stuff in my other threads but here is some additional detail. Some may find it interesting, some may find it boaring and repeatitive:
I ended up in the emergency room because while I was passed out the morning of the 17th after starting to drink and do pills at 3am, my wife said I would stop breathing and start up again. The doctors said I could have gone into respiratory arrest and either gone into a coma or died. That was rock bottom. I had been getting away with it for so long I figured I could keep doing it for the rest of my life (however short that may have been). I knew I was in denial and was killing myself and didn't care. The only thing that kept me from committing suicide was what it would have done to my wife. I figured that if I died of liver failure it wouldn't be as bad for her, and wouldn't be viewed as suicide. Pretty screwed up thinking on my part. She was beside herself when all of this happened that day. She had no Idea how much I was drinking because I was able to disguise it pretty well. People have told me that they couldn't even tell I was drinking except for the liquor smell. My tolerance was so high they had to give me massive doses of Valium to keep me from crawling up the walls.
I was only in the hospital about 25-27 hours. They were not medicating me enough and my anxiety disorder and withdrawal combined with the hospital setting was HORRIBLE. I detoxed myself with a prescription from my GP doctor of Valium and Remeron, over the next five days after leaving the hospital, against doctor’s recommendation. They told me my insurance would not cover my hospital bill if I left and my response was:
"I'd pay 10 grand to get the hell out of this place, so get this crap IV out of my arm, cut the tags off my wrists and I'm out of here" I blew out of there at 2am in a taxi cab in a pouring rainstorm. They were making mistakes in the care they were giving me, and had they pushed the insurance thing, they would have had problems to deal with from my attorney. I guess that's why for some miraculous reason the insurance IS paying. $4,400 for 26 hours in a hellhole. JEEEEEEEEZZZZZ.
I looked at an itemized accounting of the charges and it was outrageous.
The end
:)

Steve - sorry the hospital was screwin up, but I'm glad you were able to pull through it all. Congrats & keep up the good work!
Pete - have you checked with your local liquor store? Mine will order me just about anything I want as long as it's still legal:lol:

Steve, I glad you're on your way to getting past this.
Q, I actually called on one in DC that is known for variety and hard-to-find stuff. They never heard of it.
I happen to live in one of the few (only?) places left in the US with a county liquor authority that must have the scoop on every politician or potential politician considering how long they've ruled 'round these parts. Nobody in this county sells anything other than beer and/or wine, and then that's so much of a hassle that Safeway and other "general" places you often see carry beer & wine won't even consider it. I have to be careful in what I say, though, as the county liquor authority may be on the inside with RC Staff.

shipping alcohol to Maryland is illegal(violates the MD bootlegging laws- I found this out trying to join the Beer of the Month Club a few years back)
I have some friends that work in a Mont. County Liqour store, Pete, and I'll inquire with them, otherwise you'll have to persue other counties stores, or go to VA.

There is one that lives not too far from me. He bought a stock white Ford pick up. He had it painted orange, painted a giant number on the doors, added an obnoxiously loud exhaust system, has a confederate flag covering the entire hood and on the back fender it says General Lee. I bet he knows where to get some good moonshine, yup. And I bet his neighbors wish he would drink a gallon of it and leave the neighborhood. (Feet first):D

Well, I stand (sorta) ccorrected. It is called "Wild Spirit" (singular) after all. But while your link is not the exact product I'm looking for, compare the label to the one in this (http://www.lollyland.com/cocktail/wildsp.htm) link. It appears there are two versions, the 90 proof in your link called "The Original" with a tan label, and the 100 proof black label that reads instead "Paddle Your Own Canoe".
I know it's distributed by "World Wide Distillers Company" in Philly, PA. But I get no web hit for them, nor a listing from 411. :furious:
