Has anyone ever had any experience/ ever tried to breed Percula Clowns in a nano? I have a true pair of Percula Clowns in my larger tank and i was thinking about moving them (and only them with a few small corals) into a nano by themselves and seeing if i could give them their own personal "lovenest". What do yall think?

they sell dwarf clowns which would be better fitted to a nano. BUT, most breed clowns in a 20g long! Figure that one out! Those 20's are empty save a flowerpot, so that explains a bit.

My clowns (in the 200g display!) are 3 inches long (male) and 9 inches long!(female). So they can get BIG, but to be happy you could get to tiny ones and go from there, but I'd recommend the dwarfs.

Haha, clever, how about this.....I have had a yellow tang in a 2.5 gallon tank for 3 years now....I live next door to the gentlemen with the 9 inch clown. Who knows that kind of oddities our other neighbors have.

Yes you would be able to breed clownfish in a 10g tank, and it would actually be very easy, as long as they are the only fish in there.

Clows are born with neutral sex. As they grow, they can first become male. Then, later in life, they can change over to female. Note that this is a one-way process, and a female cannot return to being a male, and a male cannot return to being neutral.

If you're talking about true perculas, these even stay a little smaller than false perculas. And they certainly don't reach nine inches in length. What size tank are you speaking of? Right now I have 2 false perculas in my 18 gallon.

I don't think a nine inch clown would be that odd. I had a friend back in Berkeley who had a 300 gallon tank and he had a female clown that was eight inches. It was 11 years at that time and may have even grown more in the 3 years since.. The male was much smaller but they loooked like each other but for the size. So it can be done in a tank, if things are right.

Yeah some species get real big in wild or in big tanks - just a matter of lifespan to get there... I'm still patiently waiting to meet The Clowninator! Somebody loan that guy a camera! And put a ruler up next to it just for thrills...

all about genetics, out of a group of 100 clowns maybe one has the odd genetic to grow bigger than all the rest but a 9 inches clown would look kind of odd wouldnt it? actually now i wanna see a pix, whoeva has the 9 incher post a pix please

I'll send an email out to my friend in Berkeley and ask for him to take a picture. I doubt he would use a ruler but just a look at the fish though the glass would make it clear, that it's a lot bigger than the male.
