View Full Version : Does anyone know how to clean chemicals out of arcrylic?

Hello

I'm planning to make my own CC DIY skimmer, but today I brought my arcrylic sheet to the wood shop to cut it, but I'm kind of worried about the cutter's knowledge and I'm afraid his cutting table might have some chemicals on it that would contaminate my arcrylic.

Is there a way to clean or purify or free arcrylic from chemical, dirt, etc so it would be safe for my fish?

Soap and water, and then more rinsing with fresh water will be fine. :)

Thanks, I was just thinking would cheaning the arcrylic with washing machine degergent powder, and then rising it with lots of fresh water, will that be more effective or there's no difference and I should just use the soap bar instead? Thank you in advance

I'd use liquid hand soap with no antibacterial agents in it.

I see, thanks, I hope I have that soap.

It is available at any drugstore, but other soaps are also OK. Just avoid anything with antibacterial agents.

I get it now, I guess I'll just pay a visit at my local drug store today, thank you.

Today I just got back my cutted arcrylic from the glass shop, but I notice some black color stuff on the cutted sides of arcrylic, I'm not sure is it metal bits from the saw or burnt DW40. I tried washing it with soap but it doesn't come off.

Do you think I should sand it off with sand paper or I don't really have to?

If you washed with soap, dont' worry about it. It is most likely burned plastic and other dirt stuff that won't hurt anything.

If you are *really* worried, use some sand paper to sand it off...
