CaOH question for Randy

Hello, I have a question, I have an opertunity to get some CaOH made by the Mississippi Lime Company, it says it is Chemical Grade Calcium Hydroxide on the bag and looks like it would work awesome, but want an expert's opnion on the matter. Is this better then Ball brand Pickling lime, I hope so cause I can get a great deal on it.

I use the food grade quicklime from Mississippi Lime Company:

Other grades may not be as good, but could still be OK. I can't say how any other materials might compare to Balls.

Thanks randy, I think this is the one I found in particular, it is called rotary, I dont know what the diff is.

You can use either quicklime (calcium oxide) or lime (calcium hydroxide). I use quicklime, but it makes no important difference which one unless you use a limewater reactor, in which case you should not use CaO as it gets very hot when it gets wet.

I expect that one is fine. It doesn't have the food grade testing (lead, arsenic, etc.), but the tests that are there do not look much different from their food grade. :)
