Hello,

I received free macro algae from a local reefer. It is maroonish red and very neat. Anyways, I am wondering how to plant it? I have looked all over this site and have found no info on how to plant any type of macro. I currently have the "bottom" of it burried in the sand just like you would plant a flower. Is this correct or should it be wedged between 2 rocks or some other way. I hope just "planting" it in the sand bed will work. Also, how long does it take for the macro to "cling on" or get attached in the sand or rock or whatever else you suggest.

some macro algaes attach to a substrate some do not. Do you have any idea what kind you have?

in general i would just place the algae wherever you want and if its a species that attaches it most likely will and if not it will just stay in place. Sand or rocks will be just fine.

I have several red macros in my tank. Can you post a pic of yours so we can identify it?
