Usually you can find it in any Home Depot, north of PA. I had no problem at my local HD on Staten Island.

I found Southdown at the Home Depot in Lancaster, PA. Got some this week to set up refugium, and add to one of my tanks.

I picked some up in Enfield, CT (a little north of Hartford) a few weeks ago....they might still have some too. I think Home Depots in the eastern states are more prone to keep the stuff because, well, the coast. It costs too much to ship it to the mid-west and western parts of the U.S.

Rockdiver, it would help us focus on an answer, rather than guessing, if we knew where you lived.

Silicate sand(from what is have been told and read) is a primary food source for diatoms(brown algae). It builds up on your glass and sand. Silicate also doesnt replinish the calcium levels and keep things balanced as do calcium based sands. If silicate based sands were so good then we all would be using them instead of hunting down the "southdowns" and other calcium based sands.

Rockdiver, the answer is 'yes', to both PA and NJ. Southdown comes out of a company based in PA. My guess is that just about any store in the NJ/PA area will carry it, but I can't say for sure what the inventory will look like, now that the summer season is over, and playsand is not a hot seller. If your guys will be in the Shore area (mid-central coast of NJ) any time soon, let me know, and I can check the stores in the Ocean and Monmouth County areas.
