No I am not a druggy but I saw a very useful article in a fish magazine that showed useing hyperdermic needles to pin coral to rocks. You cant use other needles because they rust to quick underwater I guess. The only problem is you cant get the needles without a medical need. Is there a way I can get these needles?

I seem to remember a bill (in California) that went into effect at the first of the year which would allow you to buy diabetic syringes without a Rx. Check with a local pharmacy. These needles are very small, 25g. I do not know if the needle is detachable from the syringe. Otherwise you must know someone in the medical community.

I use the injector needles sold in the markets (mostly to kill aptasia) - I think they are used to inject juices in poultry and such. They arent true needles, but they are very small tipped and work extremely well for my uses.

Hope that helps. :)

They make everything so hard here in california. A few messed up people ruin it for the rest of us. I guess I will check with my pharmacy but I dont want to look like a fool asking.

hypodermic needles are still metallic ones and they will rust. some brands can be detached from the syringe and others cannot. however they are really small only 25 g and really short. however i think there is some needles that are still 25G but are a bit longer but i guess the maximum lenght is 4 cm but they are still metallic.
i guess what you need to get are the medicut ones or the needles that are used for IV line insertion they are made of2 parts the inner one which is metallic and a plastic one taht slides over it you ***** the coral with both inside each other secure it tightly in the rock under it and then withdraw the metallic inner part and this wa the plastic part will remain attaching the coral to the rock. however i really doubt it would stay that secure in place after you remove the metallic part.
guess those are some of the advantages of working at hospital:
- wahtever type of antibiotic or treatment needed to treat some fish like nitrofuran, formalin.... and whatever they don't have they'll request for you if you just show them a few pics of your fish that will die if they don't help you
-syringes to correcly ,easure the additives you want to add
-and needles if your method works
gues i'll have to start liking my job afterall

food grade injector "needles" are made out of stainless steel, and come in a variety diameters/lengths. I ordered a few of the smallest size from our supply guy at work to inject vodka into orange slices=)

they should be the ideal size for you

check with a resturant supply shop, most towns have atleast one. You might also try those "Linens and things" type stores

My grandparents breed race horses, and they always have a few boxes of syringes around the tackroom. I think they get their's from the vet, or maybe an ag store. Try there.

How would you stick a toothpick into a piece of rock. It does not seem sharp enough.

Try farm supply stores. They sell them in various sizes and multiple units to a pack. I think I paid $2 for a pack of 3. They are stainless and to date (couple years) have yet to rust.

I buy them at the local drug store I always say that I build models and use them to dispense glue.
It save all the wierd stares when you try to explain that you want to inject this small creature with Mrs. Wages pickling lime LOL

Dick, just contact Fine Science Tools and have them send you a packet of surgical stainless insect mounting pins in the size you need. They're cheap.

Maybe those syringes people use to refill their ink jets would work, not sure though. I'm pretty sure you can get them at Farm Supply places though.
