I was wondering if anyone thinks 4 175 watt mh over a 4 x 2 x 2 120 gallon tank is too much. I really dont like the spread I get with two bulbs I get too many shaded areas on sps colonies mainly the lower branches.I figured I could run them stagered -_-_ or | | | | or - | | - that way I get more even light to most areas of the tank . I also plan on having a tall ridge that runs from front right corner to overflow in back center . with another ridge formation coming from the front mid left up to the back center overflow back walls will be rock from bttom up . With table acros and monti caps growing of back wall.

Any thoughts ?

I think 4 will be fine or at least not too much.

Placement will vary depending on rockwork and corals.

Personal Opinion: No... I have a 250W over my 20-long, and I want MORE (but the tank temp doesn't :))

That puts me at about 12.5 Watts per Gallon and you're just under 6. Maybe you could do 2 x 250W in the middle and 2 x 175W on each end.

Just my opinion (we still can't compare to the sun, right?).
