I am trying to cut cost while I make a calcium reactor. Does anybody know if this regulator will work for me? Do I need a needle valve for it? Will a needle valve fit on it? I know it looks really rough but I know it works. My uncle just took down his beer tap, and this was on it.

Has anyone used this type of Calcium reactor before? Is there a difference between a calcium reactor and a calcium bicarbonate reactor (CBR). This reactor is listed as a CBR. I can get this new for $100 plus Shipping (both of them). Why does one have bioballs in it?

The regulator will definately work. You do need a good neddle valve for it though. The reactor in the picture apears to be for a fresh water planted tank.

The regulator will work if you use a needle valve. The regulator won't control the flow at the low rates you need. I use a Nupra needle valve, but they're pretty pricey.

This is the needle valve I was thinking of using. I can get it for $20. Now all I have to do is find what Reactor Im going to use.

Does anyone know the difference between a calcium reactor and a calcium bicarbonate reactor? Thanks

i am doing the same thing trying to cut some costs,i picked up a 5lb tank and need a regulator.what kind of pressure do you need for running a calcium reactor?the fellow said there is a 0-15 lbs or 0-40lbs available in both a dual guage.he also has one that is based on volume per hour.what one should i get?

A calcium reactor generates calcium ions and bicarbonate. A bicarbonate reactor only generates bicarbonate.

Like someone mentioned already, that bicarbonate reactor is prolly for FW planted aquariums.

Mecka, a psi of around 10-20 will work fine for the regulator body pressure. You still need a needle valve though.
