Checked out some stores and no one has them for a good price( $89 for a 1.5 inch one a aqualife....ugh). Does anyone in the area have one? Preferably a blue or a black and white one. Let me know.

Thanks

If you're willing to wait, check out the thread entitled "ORA group order". I'll be doing one of these in the near future again. Does it say if the clam is captive raised?

You mean the ones at aqualife? No it doesn't but I didn't ask either so I don't konw. Either way thats way too much for a dinky little blue max.

There are some nice clams with nice color at Exotic in Sacramento, but I think they are croceas. I was just there and they are on sale for 44.95.

What is the difference between maximas and croceas?

I got a nice 1" captive-raised maxima for $30. It is a group order from ORA, give Matt a pm if you are interested.

For some reason my post didn't go through last night I guess. When looking at the mantle from the top, Croceas are *nearly* symmetrical (Imagine an hourglass figure shape)...Maximas are asymmetrical. If you look at a few pics on the net of both it becomes fairly easy to spot.

Hi Matt...this is Jason

The ORA stuff is doing great for the most part. I did lose one queen conch (doa) and my clam died yesterday. I think next time I'll order a larger clam...it seems that more people are successful with the larger ones because they are more dependant on photosynthesis for energy than filter feeding.

The slimers are awesome. They have great color and are already growning. Thanks again!

jjharrisx4.. i picked up 3 ocellaris, a queen conch, and a 1.5" maxima with the ORA order and all are doing great in my tank.. haven't target fed or 2-liter fed the maxima from day one, just broadcast fed DT's and Tahiti blend every other day.

Well, I'm totally glad that your clam is doing well. I did much the same...tahitian blend and cyclopxese, but I did direct it toward the clam daily. I think the conch was just a shipping fatality, but I can't help but think I did something wrong with the clam. Maybe I moved it too close to my 250w Mh too soon.

My clams are doing great in my 12 gal nano. I have modified the lights such that I have 72 watts of pc lights over it. I place the clams pretty high on top of the rocks and I dose a small amount of zooplankton daily and DT's once a week. They are doing fine so far.

That's awesome. I'm sure my thing was just a fluke, but next time I'll just get a more mature clam to be safe. I know I have plenty of lights (2x250 + 2x110 vho actinic) on my 100g but something just wasn't right.

I'm starting to lean towards me moving it too close to the light too soon. I had it on the sand bed, and then moved it about 10" closer to the light. The next day it looked bad, and a day later was deceased.
