i have them on the same power as my pump and skimmer, should i shut everything down to pull them out and clean the strainers, or leave em running and pull em out?

Every two weeks or so, I just pull off the strainer and give it a quick rinse/cleaning. Every 4-6 weeks, I will unplug my PH's to tear apart and clean everything. No need to shut everything down. Can't you just unplug it?

i usually yank the strianer off and run it under the sink. use a toothbrush or rube my gloved finger around the inside to knock out all the stuff

Ditto, at times I even use my tank-toothbrush to scrub the strainer while it's still running in the tank.

I just take a small cup of white vinegar, stick it in the microwave for a few minutes, then dump in the strainers. After about 5-10 minutes, i rinse in hot water and the debris literally falls off.

Not sure how long they will last without cleaning as I've always cleaned mine out every 4-6 weeks. It takes all of five -ten minutes to do. My oldest maxi is six years old and I've never had any problems with it.

No. You twist off the bottom, where the inlet and outlet are.
