Randy,

Would gold like a wedding ring have a negative effect on inverts if it fell into your tank, and you did not know it?

No, both the ring and the tank will be fine. :)

Well not sure if that is where my missing wedding ring is, but it is one of the last places I can think.

Wife is gonna kill me if I don't find it soon.

I have read that gold is naturally in SW. Do you know if their would be any benefits to dosing it? Or if anything actaully uses it?

There is a very tiny amount in seawater, but I do not think dosing it is worthwhile as the uses are very rare.

FWIW, gold in seawater is present at about 0.000005 ppm or so.

Well let's see. You've got 240 gallons which about 930 kg of water, so at 0.000005 mg/kg gold, that's 0.005 mg of gold.

At the current price of about $400/ounce, that gold is worth about 0.007 cents.

Of course, with your wedding ring in the tank, the value might be a bit higher than usual. :D
