I heard those xm bulbs have been shown to be unstable with ice cap ballasts. Especially the new 400 watt electronic ones they now have out.(its made in Israel by a sub company of Sylvania) Do you know of anyone with these type ballasts that have traded with you & have you had any feedback in that department? How bout anyone that is using them with the other popular 400 watt electronic ballast the "E-ballast"? I figure there must be someone in our club using the 400 E-ballast. I know some are using the 250's Any? Just curious.

I use Icecap 250w ballast (newer ones) and heard the same thing about running XMs. But there seems to be new development in the Icecap vendor forum about the problem only seeming to be with 250w DE and not the SE. I also found plenty of people running the Icecap ballast and XM SE's with no problems, so I'm going to give ot a whirl and see what happens.

I don't know anything specificly about the IceCaps, But I have talked to one of the guys that devoloped the XMs and they were specificly trying for a bulb that would fire on any ballast magnetic and electronic alike. They are the same guys that devoloped the ARO ballasts. So I guess it would stand to reason they work well with that ballast.
So far I have the 250 DE 20Ks running on both ARO and Sunlight Supply HQI. 150 DE 10K running on ARO, and 400 20K running on Sunlight supply std (M59). All I can say is So far I'm Impressed the 10K is the most crisp white of any bulb I've run yet (in that fixture I've had AB and ushio). The 20Ks "are not your fathers 20ks",,,,LOL I've had the 400 radiums and the 250DE 20K Xanium ....these have a much more crisp, brighter and less blue look.

I'm running the 250W 20k XDEs with Icecap electronic ballasts and PFO pendants and have had no problems. The color is slightly blue and is dimmer than the 10ks, which is why I am going to be going to the 10k XDEs after I get back from vacation in a couple of weeks.
