View Full Version : Curing rock in vats. Add water to tank or no?

Asked this question at the meeting but I figured I could get more exposure here. I am vat curing my 165lbs of LR. I am about to setup my tank next week and put the rock in it. Now, should I add any water from the vats or use 100% newly made saltwater in the tank. Thanks for your input.

Good question, I didn't hear you ask it at the meeting. I would suggest a fresh batch of water, but seeing as how I never did this before, I might be wrong. But I am curing mine and then putting it into my already established tank, in a sense being 100% new water to the newly cured live rock. As long as temp and salinity are the same, I would say go for it. Are you curing it at the same SG that your tank will be at? If not, I would slowly raise the SG in the vats first before transferring it.

Just my $.02

Thanks guys. I asked it when you left Ian. I also put the same post in Reef discussion and I am getting the same feedback. Many thanks all around.

Definitely 100% new water, at close to the salinity and temp of the curing water.
