I once had a 120gal. tank with the returns from the sump plumbed through the bottom. Only a check valve prevented the tank from draining. One day the power went out. We sucked up about 80gallons and put big fans in the room but still got new carpet about 3 weeks later as it was growing mold.
The other good one was being called on the first day of vacation by my tank sitter. A trochus snail had crawled into the overflow on my growout tank and plugged it up enough to overflow the tank. She said she mixed up and replaced 30gals of saltwater to get the water levels back up to snuff. Thankfully she was checking on the tank that night!
