Hello.
I got a used iwasaki from a fellow reefer, via mail.
When I recieved it, I found that a iwasaki bulb had a crack
in it, probably due to shipping. Good thing we had
insurance on the item.

My question is:
Can I still use the iwasaki bulb? There are no missing
shards of glass from the iwasaki bulb...

Thanks!

If it happens to explode, will the pieces be going into your tank or inside an enclosed fixture?

I vote no, why chance an exploding halide bulb?? Even if it's in an enclosed hood, I still think it's capable of doing some harm. If it was insured, consider yourself lucky and replace it with a brand new bulb!

No, the envelope being cracked will only get wosre due to heating and colling expansion and contraction. It can also allow UV light to penetrate the envelpoe. That is not good for coral or people. HTH

Using a cracked bulb of any kind is very very unsafe !!
Metal halide gets very hot, very fast and this would be dangerous, to say the least.

Personally, I definately would not even try it !!
