I guess I am one of the ew out there without a Tang.
I have a few areas in my tank that have a bit of macros growing tha I can't get to and also wouldn't mind having a colorful, active fish.
Which Tang's are the most efficient algae grazers?
I have heard Sailfin and Yellow but am looking for additional opinions before making a decision.
I have a 180 tank with plenty of room...only a Coral Beauty and a pair of False Percs.

you can get a purple tang, yellow tang, blue tang,

www.liveaquaria.com is a good place to look for information.

any tang jmo would be good algae eaters. just make sure to give them the other foods like frozen, pellets and the algae pad stuff

Not the flashiest tang, but the Kole does a great job as well.

Sailfin Tangs will eat anything green(including valonia.) They are worth every penny of the price you pay for them. I have a Kole and a Sailfin and there isn't a speck of green in my tank.

i have a kole, yellow, and hippo. i don't think the kole will eat
macroalgae. my hippo eats it but not as well as the yellow.
the yellow imo is one of the best for eating macro. i think all the
varietes of zebrasoma eat macro well.

Hey Sean!
My yellow tang is a great algae eater. I have some of that algae in my refugium that you have in your display. Occassionally it gets in my display and my tang loves it!
BTW - glad to see you back here! :)

Hi Sean,
Have you considered a Foxface instead of the Tang. Just a thought for you. I decided to go that route myself. Of course, just like the Tangs, there are certain things he won't touch. I recently had an outbreak of Bryopsis...I am devastated, of all things after 3+ years....he won't touch it.

Chevrons....

They are amazing, I find mine consumes more than the purples, yellows and Powder Blue.

My Naso in my 225 FO consumes the most, but he's about a foot long and a couple of inches thick -- LOL

But for pulling stuff off the rocks, get a team. The mouth of the chevron and the yellow/purple is very different. Let them team up and do all the work for you.

Anyone have any experience with the Bristletooth Tomini Tang
(Ctenochaetus tominiensis)?
How does it do for algal grazing?
Thanks.

All tangs should eat algae and that's why they are called Tangs (German word for algae eaters). They don't eat all kinds of algae.

My yellow tang eats like a pig. The algae in the tank never stands a chance. I also give him dried seaweed on a veggie clip and he goes through like 2 of them a day.

Kole or Bristle Tooth are both from the same genus and fairly similiar.

Kole isCtenochaetus strigosus, Bristle are Ctenochaetus tominiensis

At the LFS I useda work at (up till... thursday) theyre faces were on the rocks all day.

Will a Foxface and a Tang coexist peacefully?
