What is your thought on this? My neighbor has a 250 hps for sale and I was wondering if it would work in a fuge?

Thoughts?

My gut tells me it would work fantastic, but I've never tried HPS on a fuge. I HAVE used mercury vapor on a fuge and it worked great. Refugiums certainly don't need the spectrum that a reef system does. Lots of people run them with home depot lights out of the box. I think HPS would work great. If you decide to try this, be sure to report back and let everyone know how it went!

I've been meaning to experiment with some of the lower wattage HPS bulbs (50 or 70w) over my fuge. Seems like a good way to get alot of light out of a little handful of watts..

Yea - that HD yard lite works great over our fuge 65watts less electricity :D

I've got a single 100W HPS w/ a spiderlight reflector on my fuge. Works great for me. HPS generates more lumens/W than either MH or MV and it's very good PAR as well (unlike MV). The mangroves seem to like it and my seagrasses are growing as well. There's some pictures in my gallery, but I don't have any with the light on because it creates too much glare.

I use a 70w HPS on my fuge too, Works great, highly suggested, and way less power comsuption than b4.
