I've watched those things race before. Have you ever seen the in-car camera? The cockpit is huge. LOL, there's nothing stock about a stock car. Those trucks actually have the hitch for the trailer still on them. Maybe it's to get some weight on the back tires.

I've never seen an in-car camera from those. What have they done to the motor to make it so powerful?

I'm really not sure. If you think about it though, those motors are made to be able to pull a LOT of weight, so they are already pretty tough. I would bet there are only a few mods that need to be done. Turbo charged comes to mind.

yeah, they probably increase the boost by lots!

I was at the drag strip and someone was there with a MACK truck. This guy would do burnouts that would totally obscure the track, flames coming out of the exhaust . . . just amazing.

Ace, when people do burnouts on a drag strip like that does it leave a divit like it does in the parking lot?

I don't think so. There is a burnout box right before the lights that keeps all the burnouts in one area. I believe there is a groove there. I think it was put there, though, by the track.

The motors are not really that big, maybe 350 to 400 hp. All of the towing ability by the semi's is from the HUGE transmission that they run, something like 20 gears. And if you think about the burn out, it has to be easy since they are so front heavy that the back wheels probably don't make that much contact without a load on the back. Still, way cool.

Maybe 400hp but probably over 1000 lbs of torque. Torque will get those tires spinning and HP will keep them spinning.

I wonder what gear he put that thing in for the burnout?

I think most race tracks have a smooth concrete burn out box so it doesn't get eaten up like asphalt would. I could be wrong though.

you actually do a burnout in a higher gear. a lower gear will spin the tires slower and it will allow traction, a higher gear will cause the tires to spin faster and break traction. when i race with the xr i do my burnouts in 3rd.

From the freightliner website:

Engine and Equipment
Detroit Diesel Series 60, 500hp @ 2100 rpm/1650 lb-ft.
1,500 sq. in. aluminum radiator
(4) Alliance 12 volt maintenance-free 3040 CCA batteries
Jacobs compression brake
Gates Blue Stripe coolant hoses

Thats alot of power, the torque gets it moving and the horsepower keeps it going. It also makes 1350 ftlbs of torque at 1200 rpm's.

The transmission's used range from 9 speeds to 13 for the truck rated above. The engines dry weight is around 2500 lbs.

Yeah, the crowd was cheering until they were engulfed by the tire smoke :D

And they got coverd in fine black dust that smears when you try to wipe it off.

From that day forward they all get the urge to shower when encountering a turbo diesel powered truck on the highway.

The really crazy thing is that in the right gear you can actually push start a truck that size with a half loaded trailer attached by giving it a nudge with a forklift.

There is also a conection inside the engine compartment you can touch together and start the truck w/o a key ;)

The burnou was cool, but the really truely cool part was he didn't crash that monster!
I thought at one point he was just going to go into the stands...
