I just bought a few for $13 each from my LFS. Sounds like a cheap excuse (pardon the pun) to rip off consumers yet again. A local LFS in my area is selling small blue tang for the bargain price of $72, true perculas for $30 and small star polyp rocks for $40. If I were you I would check out Jeff's exotic fish (http://www.exoticfish.com) . He usually has deals on cleaner shrimp, and everything else he sells is dirt cheap.

I call BS. There are most likley many places that the shrimp are collected. I doubt that a storm could take out an entire population...

just my .02

Yea, I think they are all over the South Paciific. Are these being tank raised now? Should be one of the easy ones. Mine are full of eggs all the time and I have seen them give birth to free swimming little guys. Of course they don't make it in a reef, but under the right conditions they should be easy to raise.

I was at the wholesalers in LA on Wednesday and they had a crap load of Blood and Scarlet shrimp. I also have heard this from one of the LFS also. I think that is a rediculous price.

I have been looking around for some locally and haven't seen any in a while. Seems strange because just about every LFS usually has at least a couple. However, I don't think I would pay $50 for them if I came across some.

OMG, $100 for two cleaners. That's just so sad. I could have shipped them to you from LA for less than that.

Sometimes I don't know who's worse. LFS employees or used car salesmen.

Yeah, I "PAID" $50 per for them :-(. Cal me (or my wife, she's the one who wanted them) stoopid. But, If I need more, I'll contact nanocat next time!!!!!
At least my Falco hawk didn't eat them, this time. I put a peppermint shrimp in a month ago and he ate it within 20 minutes. Swam around with anntennae out of his mouth for a few days.

Premium Aquatics normally has them - 2 for $25. Gotta pay shipping ... but you could have gotten twice that many.

Seems around here [Wis] that they become available ... or disappear from every store at times. Until a few weeks ago - they were impossible to get. Then the first ones [tiny] to come in a while were $31 ... now they're big ones, $20 a pop.

So I'd say your LFS took you for a ride. Maybe next time take a ride past their place to somewhere that won't lie to you?

I think we've all gotten jacked for something once ... so don't worry about it. Just take it as a `lump' for learning what that LFS is `really like'.

actually it is a valid excuse....as far as jacking up the price...that was kinda crappy of them.

I work at a LFS and we had a hard time getting regal and yellow tangs for about 3 weeks due to bad sea conditions where they are collected not allowing the "guys" to go out and get em.....but we never jacked up the price on the last few...just told people the problem and put them on a waiting list

but I dunno where they are getting cleaners from cuz we never had any problem getting them in

A LFS store in my area has smallish blue tangs for the bargain price of $72. Another LFS has percula clowns for $30, and small GSP rocks for $40. I'm starting to think that i'm *never* going to shop in LFS's any longer other than Jeff's Exotic Fish in Gardena and stick to mail order/trading with other reefers.

I wish we could sell cleaners for 9 bucks! The lowest I've ever seen on our wholesale lists was 8 bucks for a small one, thats what we pay!

Boy, do I feel stoopid. They were LARGE ones, about 2.5 to 3-inches. But still, duh on me.

Also got a nice corkscrew anenome, never saw that before.

Corkscrew (or often called curly Q anemones) are related to the dreaded aptaisia anemones everyone always hears about. I don't think they will reproduce and spread all over the place, but I'd still keep it away from corals. I often see them in sand beds, so you might try putting it on the sand bed. Given that, they are pretty.

BREAKING NEWS!!!

There was just a tornado in a large forest that wiped out a bunch of trees! This forest is the one used to collect wood from and prices are expected to skyrocket now because the wood is scarce and has to be collected elsewhere!!!

They HAVE been very hard to reliably get a hold of for months now, especially larger ones.

Over the past couple weeks, they've been starting to become more available...definatly haven't heard anything about a storm.
