After the changes I made in my setup, my velocity T4 pump is no longer doing the job. Need bigger pump with more flow. Any recommendations? It needs to be as quiet as possible.

i'll take the T-4 when you upgrade.

bluelines are designed by a former engineer @ iwaki and are supposed to be very similar to the iwakis only a little quieter. i have never used one though, only iwakis (in the basement, so sound was never an issue) which i've been very happy with

How much head and what flow are you looking at? I'm considering a GRI 520 to get me 600 GPH at 19' of head.

something that is more powerful than the T4, which is 1200gph.

i am not sure if 1500gph would be enough. I think 1700gph or more would be good.

Armando, how big is your tank and what the heigth to the tank?

Armando, is this pump for the living room setup or for your frag tank setup?
If it is for the living room, I would go for 2000gph, you have the three tanks in the same sump, with a 2000gph you will probable end up with 1200gph total or even less.

Gustavo, DLCanuck,

This pump outlet is split in 2. Each one goes into a SCWD. This is same floor level so I'd say 4 feet high. Right now the water getting into the tank is very slow. And the switching on both SCWDs is also very slow.

The T4 pump is rated at about 1150 GPH at 8 feet which is what I would expect for head pressure going through a T fitting and a SCWD. That's a little over 550 GPH per side. I can see why you think its weak.

I would think you would want something that can deliver at least 700 GPH per side at an 8 foot head hight. I'd shoot for a pump that will deliver 1400 GPH at 8' head.

Going from this data: http://reefs.org/library/pumps/

I say you should consider:
GORMAN-RUPP 520
MAK5
IWAKI MD / WMD 70-RT

good info Groove.

I had an Iwaki before and it was too noisy for me. I'm wondering how noisy are the Mak5, the Blueline and the other one you listed.

I've read a few post that people chose sequence pumps for high head pressure and huge flow. Suppose to be fairly quiet but you are comparing it to a Velocity pump which is suppose to be the most quiet.

Iwalki(Blueline),GRI are not the best choices for a "living room" environment. They are quite loud and put off some heat in the process. Better off looking at Dolphin,Sequence or JESCO(if cost is no object), all 3 are ultra queit and can push alot of water depending on pipe sizing. The Dolphin 2100 is a great choice, for small ID tubing it puts out similiar real world performance as the AMPMASTER3000 does through larger tubing. But if were talking really small tube ID(1 3/4 inch tubing)there may be other alternatives such as Sedra which is a super quiet high efficiency pump that can push alot of water.

What sized piping are we using? How many inlets/outlets??

Is the SWCD really going to used for this "larger" pump?

Might be a dumb idea, but have you considered 2 pumps?

Also, I'm not familiar with your tank, but you might consider boosting your return pump and running one of your SCWD off a T from that. This assumes your overflow can handle it.

Follow up on this thread with what you do. I'd like to hear what you end up with and how you like it.

Groove I will avoid use two pumps because of the extra heat. about:

"Also, I'm not familiar with your tank, but you might consider boosting your return pump and running one of your SCWD off a T from that. This assumes your overflow can handle it."

That's exactly what I am doing. This pump I need to replace with bigger is the return pump. it's output is connected to a T and then to two scwds on each branch.

Still haven't decided which pump I will get, probably a Mak5 or a blueline.

MAS thank you for the advice. I am thinking about getting a Dolphin 2100. This pump will feed 2 SCWDs. Each SCWD feeds a separate tank.
