What size tank is this?

Is it drilled for overflow? Is it drilled [drillable] for a closed loop?

For a LOT of water movement, best by a long way is the Tunze stream. For your 55 gallon, get the smallest contollable one and surge, say, between 30% and 50%. I have a custom 35 imperial gallon tank sized 28"Lx26"Hx16"W and use one pumping vertically upwards from the bottom of the tank in one corner. Works a treat!!

Probably an AM-3000 on a closed loop? Or a set of tunze streams? ;-) But, barring that you might be able to go with 3-4 MJ-1200s in diferent spots in the tank and keep all your detritus suspended that way.

get a pair of flippers, strap them on your feet and start kicking...

I have a wavemaker pro with 5 maxijets (2X1200, 3X900) and a little giant 1200gph for my duel return.

On my 58 I have 600 gph from the return thru a spray bar at the top back of the tank.

Adding a closed loop w/ Mag 12 on a spraybar at the bottom back to replace 3 MJ1200's on a wavetimer ... likely keeping 2 more MJ1200's on wavetimer already in there.

Tunzes would be nice, but on a smaller tank IMO overkill [streams spread wider than a 55g tank's 12"]. I'd go with a closed loop, with or without SCWD. Easy and cheap to find a 1000gph + pump ... consider spraybars too IMO.
