Hey all. Anyone else done this? I have recently done this with some different LEDs (I lost the 5 you gave me Doug).

http://www.kaotica.com/frag/diy/moonlight/

Anyway, I spent $4 a piece of the ones from radioshack that are close. I would rather jump up and get these ones. The spectrum and output are a little higher with the ones from this site that is referred to in the website.

If someone else wants to do this (and I TOTALLY recommend it - it's beautiful at night and you can see that there is still lots of activity at night), I'll get the LEDs for you for what I have to pay for them.

Let me know if you're interested.

I'm using only 3 on my 125, but that's because they only had 3 LEDs, I'm gona go up to 5.

Hey Doug, do you think those LEDs are too bright? The ones I'm using are 2600mcd and seem to be really bright to me for a night light kinda thing. Do you have yours diffused? Also, how did you mount your LEDs to your canopy?

Which ones did you get at Radio Shack? Do you have a CAT # I could go by? This is exactly what I am looking for to install into my Spacelight.. I called in the # on the first link the CAT # but they said they dont carry that anymore..

if it helps, I think the last three of the sku was 316.

I think I'm gonna go with the ebay link. I found a smaller package of them from the same guy:

I'll send them up your way for a couple of frags.

How many do you need?

I'll order these on Thursday. Probably take a week to get here from hong kong

I called Radio Shack and they said they had a 2800 Blue LED's. Would this work? I have taken some time off work this week and wanted to retro fit moonlights :D

I just got mine done today.... I used clear silicone to stick the wires and led up in the top of the canopy. I used 4 for a 72 bow.
I fused it and have a plug so I can remove the canopy without fighting the wires. Got mine on ebay also. But got the 8mm ones.
Had an old transformer laying around and picked up the resistors and misc. part at the Shack.

I put 3 in front and 2 in the back. I plan on putting a pot on them so I can dim them down at night so I dont keep the fish up....
John I would consider 6 on yours, and add a pot so you can dim down... Always nice to have too much and dim than just not enough..

I was planing on putting it on a x-10 lamp module so the aquacontroller could dim them differently throughout the night and each day to simulate a actual moon :D

You have happen to have 6 I could some frags or pay for them? :D:D:D

The ones I got from radio shack worked out pretty well. I like the way they look. They are 2600mcd and the wavelength is like 468 or something in that neighborhood.

They're $3.99 each. of the 5 I purchased from them, 2 were dead. Go figure?

They should work out pretty good for ya.

I used tape as a temporary solution. The tape didn't stick, the light fell in the water. I've got it down to about 3.5 volts so it wasn't too bad for them, but I'm sure it wasn't comfortable.

Has anyone thought about useing UltraViolet UV Black Light LED's? If the wavelength if okay for the corals I think it would look pretty cool.

Mike yes I have mine diffused you just have to get creative I used tops from the pop up water bottles and I cut a diffuser up from the side of a home depot cheepo lantern that works pretty good ;)
I used good ol Velcro to mount works great :)
Not sure about the RS lights as these even with out diffusing there not to bright just spotlights
And Brain These light make corals glow just like 03's but they glow a diff color then with 03's ;)
