Scarlet hermit crabs are the least aggressive of any hermit crab in my experience.
I just removed all of my blue legs and am left with only scarlets. No more snail deaths so far, so I'm sticking with the scarlets.

Ditto. Crabs are opportunistic scavengers. However, I am about to finally give in and throw some Scarlet's in my tank to help out w/some algae.

I started with both blues and reds. Blues won, reds gone.

I have a blue knuckle hermit that ate 3 other blue knuckle hermit. I have a scarlet that ate couple turbo snails, but I think they get aggresive when they need to upgrade their shells.

yup my hermits have been locked together for the past three days and they didnt give up until they got hungrey and decided to take a break and eat. I was glad too because I need them to do their job which was to clean the junk on the ground.
I figure they'll be back at it again.

I have some blues, reds, zebras, and a "halloween" and never had any problems yet. If you keep ebough extra shells on the sandbed, you should be fine. Good luck!

I have 10 blues & 10 reds. Every now and then I see them doing WWF on smaller snails, the nassarius type. They don't mess with the turbos. I just recently started adding corals, and when they climb on a coral, the coral obviously doesn't like it. I've been knocking them of my new leather all night tonight. They don't learn.
i'll let you know just ordered the big 20 from saltwaterfish I need something bad to clean up my tank... they can fight all they want whn they are no longer on the clock :)

No crabs (except Kermit, an emerald crab my neighbor's kid named from my first SW tank), snails only in my new 90g.
