More of a set of results of a written a poll of 25 of our BRS members conducted at a meeting in late 2003. Each person rated the top 3 stores in each category. Each 1 rating awarded a store 3 points, each 2 rating awarded a store 2 points, each 3 rating awarded a store 1 point. The final rating is the sum of these ratings. The ballots will be maintained in the BRS library until the next poll is conducted (in case of hanging chad investigations). For any LFS questioning/challenging the results I will make the entire set of results available.

Moe,

Please have them make this one sticky and 'un-stick' the old one, if they get to it.

Gee, thanks for voting for us for "Healthiest Fish" and "Healtiest Corals and Inverts", especially since we have none of either! :D

Ahh, but you did.... Your reputation from last year has lingered on. :)

Matt,

You know, I was going to make that comment in the results, but then I rethought the idea and decided I'd better just present the data. It is an impressive showing considering that many are just 'remembering' what it was like in the good 'ol days.

Not to complain.. but how can you do better in the all around category than your local category? How can someone have better fish than you in your local category but not even show up in the best of category? Heh.

Jeremy,

I also saw that, and considered commenting upon it, but I again refrained from commenting and just let the data do the talking. What I think it means is that when people were taking the survey they may not have always been thinking rationally. e.g. they might have thought to themselves....gee I put down XXX LFS quite a few times already, maybe I should put down YYY LFS instead now. As I said, the data is what the data is. I did not manipulate it in any way.

Out of towner here. For what it’ worth, I did a statistical analysis of your survey results for Questions 1 & 2.

Eastern MA Q1: Total votes = 161

1. Tropic Isle, Framingham, MA 58 : 36.0% (95% Confidence Interval = 28.6% - 43.9)
2. Skiptons Pet Shop, Dorchester, MA 53: 32.9% (95% Confidence Interval = 25.7% - 40.7%)
3. Coral Reef Aquarium, Seekonk, MA 50: 31.0% (95% Confidence Interval = 24.0% - 38.8%)

No proportions were statistically different at the 95% confidence level (P values > 0.05) with a total sample size of 161 votes. IOW, it’s a draw!

Eastern MA Q2: Total votes = 154

1. Skiptons Pet Shop, Dorchester, MA 61: 39.6% (95% Confidence Interval = 31.8% - 47.8%)
2. Coral Reef Aquarium, Seekonk, MA 50: 32.5% (95% Confidence Interval = 25.2% - 40.5%)
3. Tropic Isle, Framingham, MA 43: 27.9% (95% Confidence Interval = 21.0% - 35.7%)

Skiptons versus Tropic Isle was the only proportion that was statistically different at the 95% confidence level (P value = 0.029) with a total sample size of 154 votes. IOW, Tropic Isle was considered inferior while Skiptons and CRA were statistically undifferentiated.

Wrong to all the above LP. It's a small world !!! :)

Mike,

Thanks for your analysis, but I'm not sure you understand how the survey was conducted. Each person voted for the top three shops and ranked them. Each top ranking was multiplied by 5, the 2nd ranking was multiplied by 3, and the 3rd by one. The numbers were then totaled. Without looking at all the data you cannot tell how many votes were cast for a particular shop.

havent been to all, but have been to some. coral reef impresses me for the simple reason Jeremy will not sell anything until its time. quarantined and healthy. I know of some stores that sell them the day of shortly thereafter. With CRA you can put your name on it and wait awhile before you put your money on it.

any store in the top three is awesome considering those that didnt make it. Gregg how many stores actually were in the running?

Those that visit the right stores win

Different stores are closer to some people, so could slant the results. Plus this survey is 2 years old about
