I currently have a 55 gallon reef tank with a Yellow tang. I now realize this is a bit small for a Yellow tang but I didn't at the time I got him. I am getting ready to upgrade to a 110 gallon (60"x 18"x 24"). I think the tang will enjoy the additional room. I am wondering with this larger tank if I will be able to keep a second tang. I know that another Yellow would be a bad idea but what about a Naso or Regal? If that is not advised, what about a Foxface Rabbitfish with the Yellow? Anyone have any experience or thoughts on this? Thanks for the input.

Definitely not a Regal (10") or Naso (14"+)... they get too big. I don't know about the Foxface.

I have a 110 gallon reef tank with a 4" yellow tang. I also have a 4" powder brown tang and a 4" foxface. The yellow definately rules the tank, especially when it comes to his territory. The pb just ignores him and is a better swimmer. You would need something that could "hold his own" with the yellow and not be too intimidated.

I got the foxface last and he was shy for about a week and is still a little timid when you stand up close to the tank. He is the smaller kind of foxface with the black spot close to the tail.

Actually they all get along pretty well and all three love Seaweed Selects.

you could put in somthing like a powder brown or blue. a fox face would also bee cool. if its not a reef tank i would put in an australian harlequin tusk. thay are an awsome fish and the aust kind are 10 times nicer looking (also about twice the price)

Don't do it :D If properly cared for, a tang will get very large. As they become adults they will be cramped and inclined to fight. I have 3 two year old tangs in my 5' tank and it was the biggest newbie mistake I made. They are now 5, 7, and 9 inches long. They could use much more space than they have and regularly harass each other because of it. One of the smaller tangs in a 5' tank is plenty, imo.

GSerg2,

I see it this way - When my three tangs (yellow, hippo, and purple) get too big for my 120, it's on to the 240 for me! My wife would have to go along with it, as "our kids" would need more room.

Then the two perks graduate to the 120, and I can do something new in the 40 :D

That's great in your case but not everyone has that option. We are just trying to get people to think about the future of the animals in their care.
