i recently purcashes a sea slug and after about 4 days it got sucked onto the sunction part(the part of the filter that takes the water from the tank) and later died after i removed it from the filter. I have a whisper 20 filter and i was wondering if there is any way i could put some sort of cover/shield over that part of the filter so that this wont happen again in the future???

Hey shalom4567,

I suppose you could wrap a piece of filter media over the intake but it would clog quickly and a sea slug could possibly get stuck to that too. What kind of sea slug was it? I think very few people have long term success keeping sea slugs / ophistobranchs / nudibranchs. I attempted one and it died :(

i am not 100% sure but i think that it was a nudibranch.

And could i possible build like a wire cage to over up the intake so if the slug got stuck to it, it wouldnt suck him in it?

I have also just recently heard that the sea slugs usually only stay alive for a new months, and when they die they could release some toxins that could potentially ruin your tank. Is this true? Should i get rid of the slug that i have right now??

shalom4567,

What kind of sea slug is it? If you don't know describe it. Also you can go to www.seaslugforum.net. Some are toxic and some are not.

I might think long and hard before putting metal wire in your tank.

By filter media, I meant something like a whisper filter cartridge or something along those lines.
