what to use to clean skimmer?

I bought a used red sea berlin skimmer on ebay. It's in good shape almost new but it has a nasty smell like cat urine. what can I use to sanitize it and not haem my livestock when I put it in service. Also how does it get hooked up the bottom nozzle looks like the inlet, but there are two nozzles coming out the top are they both returns?

I don't know anything about those skimmers so I can't help you with part of your question but I got a used skimmer and cleaned it out with white vinigar and really hot water and it did a real good job of cleaning out the gunk and it smelled better.

Vinegar is good. Be careful about getting the water too hot -- heat degrades/warps some acryllics.

I shoud have specified and thought about it after I had hit the submit button, really hot tap water is what I used.
