adding REGULAR sand to an already established reef system?

Is it possible to buy Home depot sand and add it to my establised reef tank with no i'll effects? the tank is a 72 bow, planning on adding 10-20lbs or regular sand on top of the already establised live sand bed, would this be ok?

Yes and no. If you bought something like southdown/old castle sand that is Calcium based then adding it would be ok. If you mean regular Si based sand it will probably cause you huge troubles down the road. Don't risk it. You know 20 lbs of sand is only about a quart in volume, right? You probably will need significantly more than that for most cases.
