Someone finally got some and tested it.
The results are in this thread (http://archive.reefcentral.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&postid=2461082#post2461082)

I saw some in Petsmart while shopping for our pooch. It wasn't cheap, but I kind of expected that from Petsmart.

Just FYI.

I have been quoted a price of $50 for a 200 gallon mix bucket. That is cheap IMO. I pay around $65 for Reef Crystals. I

f those test results are accurate, that blows away IO and Reef Crystals by far!

I am going to try that next, when I run out of RC.

Brian,
Didn't you order a sample when I did? I guess I should be expecting mine soon also.

I bought 90gal for $25 it dissolves quicker then my previous IO. TW was selling them for less.

Yes Russ, I haven't gotten the sample yet.
I can't remember exactly what size I saw in Petsmart, but it was $26.99. I think it was the 90gallon size.

The stats were good and if you were quoted a good price for it I'd say go for it.

Just to let everyone know, Tropical World has the Oceanic salt on sale for $39.99 for the 200 gallon mix and I was told that there will be 12 buckets put aside for HVRK members as of Thursday's delivery. I'll be picking up a bucket or 2!

Frank I know you're an experienced reefer but I thought I'd pass this on to you. I was told a few months ago after using reef crystals for years that reef crystals is juiced up Instant Ocean. There were some reports of bad mixes and alkalinity was way way up. Some people want higher calcium and alkalinity and have less dosing to worry about. i changed over to IO and have been very happy. I pm ed you about Fridays meeting.

Tom,

I had a problem with IO being to low in Ca and Alk. That is why I switched to RC. That is also about the time I noticed my coral growth explosion. Maybe a coincedence:confused: But IO tests real low in CA and if you do a large(25%) water change, IME your Ca will drop significantly.

Thanks Frank I'll keep my eye on things this weekend, I'm doing a water change. I've been doing 20% every 2 weeks. I'm going to cut back to 10% and watch the Calcium and Alkalinity. I'm thinking of changing to RC now that you said that. A growth explosion would be nice!!!!!!

Tom,

I am not red flagging the use of RC as the reason for my growth explosion. It is one of the few factors that I changed around the same time. The others were upgrading my lighting from 440 watts VHO to 800 watts as well as doubling my system by putting my sump and fuge in the basement and upgrading my skimmer to an E.T.S.S. 500 from a reef devil.

One thing I can say for sure is that the use of RC has made the stability of my Alk. and Ca much easier to maintain. If there is a possibility of RC being mixed wrong, I feel that the same possibility is present for IO, since the same people in China are making both!!:D The difference in the parameters in my testing were enough to make me give away 1/2 a pail of IO and buy a new one of RC!

I bought a 25 gallon mix bag of Oceanic Salt today and will post my results of testing when I'm done.

BTW, Trop. World never got in any 200 gal. buckets, but they have all the other sizes pretty cheap.

Here are my results:

25 gallon mix bag
25 gallons of RO/DI with a TDS of 0ppm

Temp - 78 degrees F
Salinity 1.021
pH - 8.15 (water was in the dark)
Ca - 440 ppm
Alk - 3.09
Dkh - 8.6
No3 - 0
Po4 - 0

The stuff mixes almost instantly!! The calcium is great, but the Alk is low IMO

If I didn't have 400 gallons of IO in my garage, I might get some. Don't want to tease myself with new salt then not use the IO. But then again, if it aint broke, don't fix it, so I might just stay with IO. I think I finally got my tank stable, so I don't want to mess with it.

ok, just talked to Bruce. this is the deal. anybody says any diff. tell them this what Bruce and Jay told you... end of story.

12 in stock will be sold to HVREEF members only @ 39.99 until they're gone.

The sale to general public @ 39.99 will end 3/14.

After the 12 in stock are gone the price for HVREEF members only will be set @ 49.99 and general public price will be something like 59.99-69.99, MSRP is 74.99.

hope this clears things up
