Feather Dusters Out?

I was looking at my aquarium today and noticed that two small feather dusters were out of their holes and lying in the sand open. Why would they do this? Do they need more nutrients in the water? Thanks

they do if for a number of reasons. most common is they dislike their current location due to flow/food supply and are moving. they also do it when picked on by fish/inverts and try to move. and they also do it when they are dieing either by old age or some cause. its hard to tell just exactly why most times.
