Here is the thing, I want to semi automate my top off sytem. Right now I am pouring water into the sump every day and I am getting rather bored. Do you think this will work:

I do not have much space but I plan to do the following:

Buy:

1 13 gallon water container
1 IV Drip (used in hospitals)

Method:

Make a hole on the top of the container and sylicone the dripper to the top. Place the container full of water on top of my canopy and let the water drip at a rate of a drop per second into my sump.

Do you all think this might work?

I appreciate the help.

I'd put the hole on the side near the bottom. It would work fine.

Thanks,

Two questions:

1) Does the dripper need air to get into the container?
2) What is the best thing to glue it to the container?

1) Yeah, you'll need a little vent hole. Or just loosen the cap a bit.

2) Not sure, I have the Kent's Aquadose and it has a rubber sleeve that fits over the end of the IV dripper then slids into a hole in the side, it fits snuggly and doesn't leak.

I have a friend that has a container with a valve on the side. How does this sound?

Make a hole on the top and place the IV drip on the top. Place the container upside down and open the valve for a vent...

Sound good?

Anything as long as it allows air to enter the container. Preferable on the top.(vent)

Just get some aquarium safe silicone and silicone a plastic air valve in the side of the container neer the bottom.
