I bought an electronic timer made by Ingraham from walmart.
I lost the manual and don't know how to work this thing.
It is one that you can program upto 20 different on/off schedule.
I went through all the set up, but I don't know how to activate auto timer. I see that one button will switch from "on" -> "auto on" -> "auto off" -> "off" -> "on"
Can anyone help? I can't find the manual online either. :(

OH! OH! I forgot! The last time I went to walmart, I found the timer and wrote down the 1800 number. It's 1-800-919-3101. I'll call them tomorrow and let you know!

I called 1-800 number, and I knew that this was gonna happen. As the usual, customer service has no idea on the product. instead he asked me bunch of questions not related to the problem that I am having. He was just reading stuff out of his books, then asked me question. I can just see him flipping pages depends on my answer and reading again. :( frustrating. Anyhow, he wasn't able to answer what "auto on" and "auto off" exactly do, and how to set it so that the timer automatically turns on and off. so... DO NOT BUY INGRAHAM ELECTRONIC TIMER FROM WALMART!!

Actually, a better way to put it is:
"do not buy Ingraham electronic timer from Walmart and lose the manual."
There. I feel better. After all, its not Walmart's fault you lost your manual...

Just go buy another one, open it, copy the manual, put it back in, return it....
Or suck it up and eat the cost of a new one. :D

I wasn't blaming on walmart. I did not say "Don't buy a timer from walmart," but "don't buy INGRAHAM timer from walmart." And I did get a new manual, and the manual is not well scripted. I have talked to few others who has bought this timer and they have the same problem. I love walmart. However, walmart, at least the ones around this area, only carry one kind of digital electronic timer and that is Ingraham timer. So, don't buy this one. This one sucks.

I am using the Intermatic manual type switches. They are pretty bullet proof and only cost $15 (for the nice three prong water proof outdoor rate version) or $4 for the regular indoor version. I use them to turn the lights on and off when I am not home as well.

I use Timex digital timers. They are about 17.00 at home depot. I really like them alot. They have a built in battery backup and are easy to use. Also they look kinda cool. The only bad thing is the way plug into the wall. You really need a horizontal wall socket. I built a control panel to put them in. I've had a lot of timers and like these the best. Right now I'm running five of them.http://reefcentral.com/gallery/data/500/39694Picture_006.jpg

"Auto on" means the circuit is currently ON and the programming sequences will be run as they come up.
"Auto off" means the circuit is currently OFF and the programming sequences will be run as they come up.
"On" means the circuit is currently ON but nothing you programmed will do anything (that means it will stay on until you mess with it again).
"Off" means the circuit is currently OFF and nothing you programmed will do anything (that means it's going to stay off until you mess with it again).
A question I had about these timers--and the reason I pulled up this old thread--is how does one erase ONE SINGLE off or on event entirely without having to reset the whole unit with the ball point pen? It seems pretty strange that once you program an event, you can't just turn it off again unless you reset everything.
