I must be the slowest carpenter on the planet (two months to get this far), but thought I'd post a pic of my progress. 2x4 frame with 1/2-inch oak veneered plywood. I'm having the doors custom-made for $30/ea. & should be able to hang 'em this weekend.

Looks real nice, i particularly like your molding. And dont feel so bad, it took me 2 1/2 months to finish my stand and canopy (time is hard to find with a 7 month old baby!).

Looks good  I don't have much in the way of wood working tools so it would take me a lot longer trying to borrow stuff.

Finished the stand today. Ready for stain/sealant next weekend.

Question - how many of you have built a stand with an access door on the side (and up high) for easy access to the bulkheads? Seems like it would be much easier on your back. Would be really easy to put one in.

Thanks,
Ross

Thanks Lunch.... Put a nail through my finger (with a nailgun) last night, but it was worth the results.

Thanks for the compliments, guys. Working on a hood now with two 175W halides and a couple of actinic VHOs. I'm interested in what others have done regarding:

- leaving the back of the hood open or not
- integrating a UV shield for the halides
- height of said 175W halides above water

I anyone has any input, I'd appreciated it. Oh, and before this turns into a discussion of whether or not a UV shield is needed (I've read all the threads, books, etc.), I'm choosing to use one.

Oh, and Lunch - I remember your tanks from nano-reef.com - awesome. What's your website URL again?

Thank you my brothers....

If you are running SEs you dont need UV shielding however if you are running DEs you need them as a DE is basically the inner envelope of a SE.

The back i would leave open if just for the fact that it's more ventilation.

As for height you could go anywere from 6-12 inches. Easy way to judge how the lights will heat the water fire one up and leave it run for a few hours than see how close to it you can put your hand till you start to feel the heat coming off of it. I did this for my 400s i have over my 75 and i could feel the heat 12 inches away so i mounted them above that distance and no heat problems yet. Just plan on a few fans in the top or sides and you should be good for the summer months.

I plan to go to a bigger tank so to save some cash i went a wee bit overkill with the lights. So i could light the current tank and still carry the lights over to a futur large tank i solved the heat issue this way. BTW no fans or chiller and i run them 8 hours. Oh and i will be staining that stand/canopy modification walnut to match this weekend.
