Has anyone tried these devices? They at least look interesting, and I LOVE the price vs. Seaswirls....

The photo looks interesting, and as you say, the price is great. Hard to tell what oscillates - from the photo it looks like the top piece does, but then the suction cup placement doesn't really make sense.

Nice price in comparison to the sea swirls but look at the outlet size . . . These would really only be good for us smaller tank users . . 1/2in outlet wouldnt do much at all for somone running a little giant or dolphin closed loop system.

On the other hand if you are running a smaller closed loop . . maybe with two of these on a mag 5 - 9 It would probly do really really well.

Oh and it is the 90* elbow on the top that ocelates . . says so at the end of the discription. Think the suction cups are for putting it on a center brace or on a stand with a smooth surface.

They claim it will handle a flow rate of up to 2,250 gph. That would give you 25 X volumn per hour on a 90 gallon tank, With two of these it should enough for a 180 gallon tank.

They still make those pieces of junk? In my hands, it reduced flow too much, took constant cleaning and fiddling to keep in operation, and the suction cups were a pain. Oh, and it takes up a lot of internal space compared to a SeaSwirl.

Wouldnt the presure coming out of the nossle push your fish up against the glass at 2250 GPH from 1/2in ???

Yep, those are junk. Think of a Sqwd, gear driven, but it jams all the time and takes all your pump pressure away.

Great! Thanks for all the responses..... I thought they looked too good to be true.

Bill,

The manufacturer is Ocean Currents:
[/QUOTE]http://www.ocean-currents.com/

Their rotation is via gears and that results in some loss of flow through the device. (Same is true for SQWDs and the powerhead that I can't remember the name of.) I think you need a true 800 GPH to run them. The gears are also prone to clogging due to bits of sand/detritis.

That said, Sea Swirls will (also) eventually fail (just much later). I have three that have died (in the 2 to 3 yr old range).

I think the choice is personality dependent. If you are the type who will religiously service equipment every month or two, then the Ocean Currents will work for you. If you are the type who likes things bulletproof and is willing to pay for replacements or refurbishment every few years, then the Sea Swirls are for you. (Pay me now or pay me later.)

Regards,
Bob D.

I like the occilators alot . . Im thinking of doing one in the middle of the front of my 36bf facing the back . . The thing i like the best about them is when they are on they are totally submerged but if set right when the power goes out and they pop up they will come out of the water to break siphon. Right?

Cool stuff.

They look neat, but the references to numbered ports are a bit confusing without any numbered diagrams. (And, the videos were only slushing audios for me.)

Any first hand experience with these babies?

Thanks,
Bob

Just the revolution thingy. The 8 way is just like a three way valve but with 8 ports! As the internal drum rotates it sinusoidally opens and close 8 ports at different times.

good word - had to look that one up!

In case anyone else is stupid enough to not know that word:

Any of the venous cavities through which blood passes in various glands and organs, such as the adrenal gland and the liver.
