modifying pos skimmer - help!

Has anyone modified the skimmer that comes with the pro 75 wet/dry? I'm very close to buying a different skimmer, but thought I would check if there is a quick fix. It comes with a rio 200. I think a bigger pump would be a start... Any ideas please?
