DIY Skimmer Question?

I am going to build a skimmer, but was wondering which one would be more efficient....A spray injection type powered by a 700-900 gal hr pump or a aprox. 4' high venturi skimmer powered by a 1200 gal pump?

I build them 4 or 5 feet high powered by an 800 gallon pump suplimented by an air pump. It has been working beautiful for many years. I need the air pump because I did not want to use such a large water pump. I inject air into my homemade venturi valve and the water pump churns it into a very nice froth.
