Hey all.
I have an AGA 55 long with that silly iron frame you see everywhere. I cover it with canvas, it's just not fitting with my decor and all. :)

I want to put my Q tank under the stand, on a board over the supports near the bottom. It's a 20g. We're in a little city apartment, so being able to do this would help a great deal. We keep the towels in the kitchen, the bookshelves in a closet..space is a premium.

Am I about to Do Something Really Dumb? Will this be a problem? Anyone have a sump/fuge/whatever down there? Anyone done it?

Hi Vilas,
I have the same stand/tank. I'm thinking of putting another 55g below. The LFS says it's ok to do and my brother use to have a set up like that, but I'm still a bit parnoid.

As it is, my tank is around 5'8" tall w/ canopy. With such a narrow foot print (front to back) it is a little scary:eek1: I do plan to secure the upper portion of the stand to the wall.

We should prolly check with the mfg to make sure. I'll see what I can find out for us:)

Years ago I had a 55g on a wrought iron stand with a 30g underneath never had any problems, as a matter of fact I wish I still had that set-up.

sweet. I'll check the mfg. Anyone else with experience in this? Peace of mind is hard to come by. :)

I'm hoping to set up a Q tank to keep cycled for 6-10 months, however long it takes me to stock the main tank. Afterwards, maybe I can plumb that into a sump or fuge - need a different tank, though, the one I have has had copper used in it. ugh.

Vilas,
On their site you can download a PDF file listing their stands. They call their wrought iron stands"Twin Delux".

I'll send them an e-mail just to make sure.

I have a iron wrought stand made for a 29g. Have the stand for over 10 years, 29g on top and 20g full refugium/sump on bottom.

I still have an AGA metal stand that did have two 55 gallon tanks on it. They both were on the stand for two years and no problem. In fact, I still have this wrought iron stand and the stand is 21 years old. It's great condition and I still use it with a 55 for a "just in case/emergency tank".

I have a 90g on an iron stand w/a 30 sump. Also used to have a 30g w/a 20g underneath when I was doing FW. Everything's stayed nice and level. What you're planning should not be a problem. :)

If you want to be on the safe side, how about just stacking some bricks on the floor and set your board on that. That way the weight is not on the stand. You can still put it under the tank.

:smokin: Love the frame, I live in a one bedroom apt and have a 55 reef on top and a 60 on bottom with a pair of oscar's....I have had this system for about five years.

Do you have any rust problem w/ these wrought Iron stand?

They are cheaper, and more stronger than those particle board aquarium stand.
